100,000 PhDs to be produced within one year in Burma

Burma's universities are being instructed to produce 100,000 PhD degree holders in 2011-2012 academic year so as to overtake the numbers of PhDs in United States of America that tallied 49,562 in 2008-2009 academic year.

Currently, there are 172 universities and colleges in Burma. The military regime is planning to open more universities and colleges- around 4,828 in number- in 2011; therefore, the total number of universities and colleges will be 5,000 in Burma. As a result, number of Burma's universities and colleges will be higher than USA, that has only 4,128 universities and colleges.
